Business transformation and automation glossary
Terms you'll find across this site and in any serious conversation about digital transformation, explained without the filler.
- Process automation
- Designing a workflow so repetitive tasks — entering data, generating reports, moving information — happen without constant manual intervention.
- Digital transformation
- Adopting technology to change how a company operates, not just digitizing what it used to do on paper.
- Business transformation
- Aligning processes, technology, and team around a business goal, so a company can grow without its operation becoming more complex or more expensive.
- RPA (Robotic Process Automation)
- Software that mimics human actions in digital systems (clicks, copy-paste, filling forms) to execute rule-based repetitive tasks.
- Workflow
- The sequence of steps, people, and tools that carry a process — from receiving an order to closing it — through from start to finish.
- Generative AI
- AI models capable of creating text, images, or code from a prompt, rather than only classifying or predicting existing data.
- AI adoption framework
- A structured methodology for introducing AI into a company progressively: diagnosis, training, implementation, and evolution, instead of one-off projects.
- Technology consulting
- Specialized advice for making technology decisions — what to build, what to automate, what stack to use — aligned with business goals.
- Staff augmentation
- Adding external professionals who temporarily join a company's internal team to cover a specific technical capacity need.
- MVP (Minimum Viable Product)
- The simplest version of a product that lets you validate it with real users before investing in building every feature.
- Technology stack
- The set of languages, frameworks, databases, and infrastructure used to build and run a software product.
- Systems integration
- Connecting two or more tools or platforms so they share information automatically, without someone having to move it by hand.
- Operational dashboard
- A visual panel that shows an operation's key indicators in real time, so decisions don't have to wait for a manual report.
- No-code / Low-code
- Platforms that let you build applications or automations with little to no traditional programming, using visual interfaces.
- Technical debt
- The future cost of taking technical shortcuts today: code, processes, or architecture that work now but will eventually need to be redone.
- Scalability
- The ability of an operation, system, or product to grow in volume without cost or complexity growing at the same rate.
- ROI (Return on Investment)
- The relationship between what's invested in a project and the value — savings, revenue, time recovered — that project generates.
- KPI (Key Performance Indicator)
- A specific metric used to measure whether a process or team is achieving the expected result.
- Technology co-creation
- A collaboration model where the technology provider shares risk and result with the client, instead of billing only for hours or deliverables.
- Operational diagnosis
- The initial analysis of a company's real processes, to identify bottlenecks and opportunities before proposing any technical solution.
